Yzaguirre has been made in El Morell, in Spain's Tarragona province, since 1884, making it the oldest Spanish vermouth brand still in production today. The family-owned bodega has stayed true to its original formula while growing its reach considerably, exporting to more than twenty countries since 2002 and expanding the range to include white, reserva, and anniversary bottlings alongside the classic rojo.

The rojo starts with a white wine base made from hand-picked Macabeo grapes, into which a closely guarded blend of dozens of herbs and spices is infused, including wormwood, cardamom, cinnamon, and clove. Unlike the barrel-aged reserva expression, the classico is bottled without oak aging, letting the wine and botanicals speak more directly and keeping the style bright rather than woody.

Mahogany in color with orange highlights, it carries an intense, herby and spicy aroma softened by mild balsamic touches. On the palate it is sweet and velvety, with good acidity keeping the sweetness in check, finishing long, intense, and lightly bitter. Serve it well chilled over ice with an orange slice, or set out a spread of tapas, olives, and cured meats alongside it.
