Lysholm Linie Aquavit Liqueur 700ml

Linie Aquavit traces its origins to Trondheim, Norway, and the trading family Lysholm. In 1805 Catharina Lysholm sent casks of potato spirit aboard a ship bound for the East Indies, and when the unsold barrels returned nearly two years later, the family discovered the long voyage had transformed the spirit into something rounder and more complex. Her nephew Jørgen B. Lysholm, who had studied chemistry in Berlin, turned that discovery into a commercial recipe in 1821, founding the distillery that still produces Linie today under Norwegian producer Arcus.

Linie is distilled from potatoes and flavored with caraway, dill, and a blend of other Nordic herbs and spices according to a recipe that has remained largely unchanged for two centuries. After distillation, the aquavit is filled into oak casks that previously held Oloroso sherry and loaded onto cargo ships as deck cargo, where it spends around four months at sea, crossing the equator twice on a route that has historically passed through Australia. The rolling motion, shifting temperatures, and sea air accelerate the aquavit's maturation in a way that land-based aging cannot replicate.

The nose shows fragrant caraway and star anise alongside orange zest and soft oak. On the palate it is smooth and gently sweet, carrying sherry, vanilla, and warm spice, with a lingering finish of caraway, dried fruit, and oak.
