Maraska Maraschino Cherry Liqueur (Kosher) Liqueur 750ml

Maraska traces its roots to Zadar on the Dalmatian coast, where Dominican monks began producing a cherry-based liqueur as early as the 16th century, later refined into an industrial product in 1759 when the Venetian merchant Francesco Drioli established a formal distillery there. After the Second World War, Zadar's various historic liqueur producers were consolidated into a single state enterprise that took the name Maraska in 1949, continuing the city's centuries-old tradition from a factory that once belonged to the Luxardo family before their departure from the region. Maraska remains headquartered in Zadar today and is Croatia's leading liqueur producer.

This maraschino is distilled from the marasca cherry, a wild sour variety native to the rocky Dalmatian terrain, using the whole fruit including pits, stems, and leaves rather than just the flesh. This traditional method is what gives the liqueur its characteristic almond-like undertone alongside its cherry character. After distillation, the spirit is sweetened before bottling and finished at 32% alcohol by volume, in keeping with the historic Zadar recipe.

The liqueur is crystal clear with a rich, floral cherry aroma. On the palate it balances sweet and tart cherry flavors with subtle almond notes from the pits, finishing smooth with a lingering, slightly bitter edge.
