Pierre Ferrand is a family-run cognac house based on its own estate in Grande Champagne, the most prized growing area within the Cognac region. The property spans roughly twenty-seven hectares of chalky vineyard land, with distillation carried out at the historic Logis d'Angeac and blending overseen at the Château de Bonbonnet, once home to the Martell family. Now guided by a fifth generation of cellar masters, the house works exclusively with fruit grown within Grande Champagne, a rare commitment among cognac producers.

Ambré is a blend of eaux-de-vie distilled from Ugni Blanc and Colombard grapes, aged for an average of ten years in French Tronçais oak barrels stored across several cellars chosen for their humidity and temperature. Though the resulting spirit meets the technical standard for an XO designation, Pierre Ferrand markets it as a 1er Cru de Cognac to highlight its single-appellation origin.

In the glass, Ambré shows a warm golden amber hue. The nose offers vanilla, rose, and violet alongside plum, apricot, and baked apple and pear. The palate is fresh and well balanced, layering honey, dried fruit, light oak spice, and almond through to a long, gently warming finish.

"Cognac Ferrand is a relatively new producer, dating only from 1989; their aim from the start has been to produce Cognacs with individual character that express the uniqueness and style of their terroir. The Ambre is a very subtle, aromatic Grande Champagne Cognac, amber in color, as its name would indicate. Its subtle vanilla bouquet also has floral overtones of roses and violets, leading into hints of prunes and apricots."
