Champagne Moussé has grown vines in the village of Cuisles since 1750, tucked into a side valley of the Vallée de la Marne with an unusual schist subsoil beneath its clay. While Pinot Meunier is often treated as a secondary variety elsewhere in the region, the Moussé family has built its reputation around it, planting roughly four-fifths of the estate to Meunier alongside smaller amounts of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Eugène Rosé combines two perpetual reserves, one built from white base wine and the other entirely red. The red component comes from a single Meunier plot in Cuisles, macerated on the skins and then aged for years in barrels that are themselves at least eight years old, a choice meant to encourage gentle oxidation without stripping the wine's freshness. The finished rosé leans heavily on Meunier, rounded out with a smaller share of Pinot Noir, and carries a light dosage.

The wine pours a saturated pink and offers aromas of preserved cherry, orange peel, toasted spice, and wild strawberry, with a savory, mineral undertone running beneath the fruit. On the palate it is rich and full, with a lively, frothy mousse. Pair it with grilled lamb chops or seared tuna.

92 Points
"The NV Brut Rosé Eugène is another terrific effort from Moussé. Brisk and vibrant in the glass, with lovely depth, this is a very versatile wine. Cranberry, mint, chalk, white pepper and slate are all finely delineated in
this attractive, mid-weight offering. The Rosé is essentially a blend of the 2023-base Blanc de Noirs Eugène (itself a perpetual reserve) and a second perpetual reserve of vintages 2022-2003. Dosage is 2.5 grams per liter.
Disgorged: April 9, 2025.
