Made from hand-selected 100% Blue Weber agave grown in the rich red clay and cool climate of the Highlands of Jalisco, Espolón uses a longer agave roasting process and slower distillation technique than most. The Reposado is then aged six months in new American oak barrels — quite a bit more time than many modern reposados.
Wine Enthusiast (90 pts) describes it as balancing vanilla sweetness with mild, zingy notes of mint, menthol, and green pepper, finishing with a perky cayenne pepper tingle. Agave, caramel, barrel spice, and cinnamon on the nose, with a smooth, approachable palate — spicy and sweet in equal measure, with a melon-tinged finish.
