The pinnacle of one of Tuscany's most compelling estates — and a testament to Cabernet Franc's unique versatility.

Arcanum is the flagship Toscana IGT of Tenuta di Arceno, based on Cabernet Franc — the true signature grape of the estate. Sourced primarily from the L'Apparita and Belvedere blocks with superb exposure and sandy clay soils, it is a wine built to age yet drinkable young, offering aromas of violets, roses, and raspberries with long, delicate spice notes — seductive yet subtle.

2014 was one of the most complicated harvests in memory, but Cabernet Franc's unique ability to excel in both hot and cold years — never ripening too early or too late — meant Arcanum shone even in this challenging vintage. The nose carries classic notes of earth, cypress, and mint with hints of fresh blueberry. Soft and tantalizing tannins lead to flavors of strawberry, exotic spice, and white chocolate, finishing long and fresh with cedar, white pepper, and tobacco — the hallmark signatures of great Cabernet Franc. Aged 12 months in 80% new French oak.

A vibrant, elegantly structured vintage framed by pleasant minerality — one that took longer to express its full potential and was released a full year after the 2015.  Critic average of 93 points for the 2014 vintage.  Now at a beautiful drinking window, with further evolution ahead.

94 Points
"The 2014 Arcanum, made with 60% Cabernet Franc, 25% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot, represents a carefully conceived and contemplated blend to match the difficult conditions of the vintage. Unlike the 2014 Valadorna that seemed to suffer more in this challenging vintage, this top-shelf wine really has its act together. Soft and rich layers of black fruit and spice give the wine lasting depth and intensity. Perhaps the finish is a tad shorter compared to other vintages, but the difference is really quite small. Ultimately, this is a full-bodied Tuscan red with the potential for ten years (or more) of happy bottle aging."
