2018 Tenuta Trerose - Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG Simposio (750ml)
Producer
Simposio sits at the top of Tenuta Trerose's range, the estate's most ambitious expression of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Trerose itself is centered around a 16th century villa near Valiano di Montepulciano, part of the Angelini Wines & Estates group since the 1990s. While the estate produces several bottlings drawn from its five hills of varied soils and exposures, Simposio is reserved for fruit chosen specifically for depth and aging potential, representing the fullest statement of what the property's Sangiovese can achieve.
Growing and Production
The wine is made entirely from Sangiovese, known locally as Prugnolo Gentile, sourced from the Colle i Palazzi vineyard, a southwest facing site with clay rich, calcium carbonate soils. The vines are trained using the spurred cordon method at a density of around 5,000 per hectare, with an average age of about 25 years at the time of this vintage. After fermentation the wine matures for roughly 18 months in large 30 to 40 hectoliter barrels, followed by another 18 months of bottle aging before release, a slow, patient process built for structure.
Tasting Notes
The 2018 shows a medium ruby red color with garnet highlights, opening to a complex, subtle nose of savory notes, ripe dark fruit, and light coffee tones. The palate carries powerful, firm tannins with noticeable warmth and a finish that dries only slightly. It suits venison stew, roasted wild boar, or other rich, structured meat dishes.
