Tenuta Valdipiatta was founded in 1973 and passed to Giulio Caporali at the end of the 1980s, who later handed day-to-day running to his daughter, Miriam, in 2002. Under her direction the estate brought in Bordeaux oenologist Eric Boissenot in 2010, a consultant who also works with Lafite, Latour, Margaux, and Palmer. The property spans about forty hectares in the hills of Montepulciano, with thirty planted to vine, and Vigna d'Alfiero stands as one of its most prized single-vineyard sites.

Vigna d'Alfiero was planted in the early 1970s and is farmed predominantly to Sangiovese, known locally as Prugnolo Gentile. After a brief pre-fermentation maceration and fermentation with selected yeasts, the wine spends eighteen months in Allier oak barrels, during which malolactic fermentation occurs, followed by a further twelve months of refinement in bottle before release.

The wine offers bold, floral, and mineral aromatics layered with dark berry fruit, mint, and savory herbs, showing more density and structure than Valdipiatta's standard bottling while keeping its trademark freshness. Smooth, mature tannins carry through to a long, complex finish. It pairs well with roasted meats, wild boar stew, or a hard aged cheese.

93 Points
"The 2019 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Vigna d'Alfiero is impossible to ignore, with a darkly alluring bouquet that blends savory herbs and crushed stones with mentholated blackberry and mint. This further impresses with pure silk textures and polished red and black fruits. Vibrant acidity adds an extra dimension as black tea-like tannins slowly saturate. It finishes dramatically long and structured with traces of salted licorice and a bitter blackberry twang. The Vigna d'Alfiero is simply stunning, yet patience will be required."
