L'Erta di Radda takes its name from the steep slopes surrounding the village of Radda, in the heart of Chianti Classico. Diego Finocchi purchased the property in 2006 at just 24 years old and has spent nearly two decades converting it fully to organic farming, achieving certification in 2015. The estate's high-altitude vineyards, sitting between roughly 1,050 and 1,200 feet and planted originally in 1967, have earned Finocchi a reputation as one of the region's most exciting young winemakers, with his wines recognized in Jancis Robinson's unofficial "grand cru" classification of Chianti Classico.

The Riserva comes entirely from Vigna del Casino, a one-hectare, north-facing parcel planted with Sangiovese clones chosen specifically for the site and kept to very low yields. The 15-year-old vines grow in iron-rich galestro soil, and unlike the estate's base Chianti Classico, the Riserva omits Canaiolo entirely in favor of pure Sangiovese. Fermentation happens spontaneously over about 15 days, with a longer maceration extending to roughly 40 days, followed by 12 months in untoasted French oak casks and another 12 months in barrique.

The wine is powerful yet racy, with dark fruit, berries, and spice framed by firm tannins and vivid acidity. Its purity and structure suggest real aging potential, though it already drinks well on release. This is a Chianti built for grilled lamb chops, wild boar stew, or a rich beef ragu with plenty of herbs.
