2020 San Felice - Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Poggio Rosso (750ml)

San Felice is one of the oldest wine-producing sites in Chianti, its village origins tracing back to the year 714 near the Pieve di San Felice not far from Siena. Today the estate is known for its scale and ambition, producing two separate Gran Selezione wines under the guidance of longtime head winemaker Leonardo Bellaccini, one of Tuscany's most respected oenologists. Poggio Rosso comes from a specific vineyard planted in the late 1970s with carefully selected Sangiovese clones, and has become the estate's most prized single-vineyard expression, made only in the best vintages.

The wine is produced entirely from Sangiovese, harvested in the second half of September and fermented on the skins for about 25 days at controlled temperature, undergoing malolactic fermentation in the process. The wine then ages for around three years, split between large oak casks and French barriques, followed by a minimum of 15 months resting in bottle before release, a long, patient process reflecting its status as the pinnacle of the estate's production.

The glass shows a bright ruby red color, opening to aromas of plum, blackberry, and raspberry with savory, herbal undertones. On the palate the wine is full-bodied and structured, with firm yet refined tannins, bright acidity, and a long, persistent finish that continues to evolve with age. It is well suited to braised meats, roasted game, or a rich pasta with slow-cooked ragu.
