2020 Trerose - Rosso di Montepulciano Salterio (750ml)
Producer
Tenuta Trerose is centered around a 16th century villa in Valiano di Montepulciano, on a property with roots reaching back to Roman times. Established as an independent estate in 1982, it became part of the Angelini Wines & Estates group in 1994, joining two other historic Tuscan properties under the same ownership. The estate spans five distinct hills, each contributing its own soil profile and exposure to the wines produced there.
Growing and Production
Salterio is built mainly from Sangiovese, known locally as Prugnolo Gentile, with a small portion of Cabernet and Merlot rounding out the blend. The vineyards benefit from Trerose's varied terrain of clay, sand, and silt spread across the estate's five hills, giving the fruit a range of character to draw from. The wine is crafted as a lighter, earlier drinking style compared to the estate's Vino Nobile bottlings, meant to showcase Sangiovese's fresher, more immediate side.
Tasting Notes
The nose is earthy and herbaceous, with sweeter notes of candied red apple and cherry adding brightness. On the palate, cherry fruit continues alongside fresh herbs, while a touch of blood orange lifts the sweetness and adds a gentle tannic edge. Medium bodied and food friendly, it pairs nicely with cured meats, young cheeses, or a simple tomato based pasta.
