2021 Felsina - Chianti Classico Riserva Berardenga (750ml)
Fattoria di Fèlsina takes its name from the Etruscans, who cultivated wine and olives on this land some three thousand years ago. The modern estate began in 1966, when shipowner Domenico Poggiali acquired the property at the southeastern edge of Castelnuovo Berardenga, in the Chianti Classico zone. His son-in-law, Giuseppe Mazzocolin, joined the business in the 1970s and brought in winemaker Franco Bernabei, and together they steered Fèlsina toward a singular focus on Sangiovese, resisting the trend toward international varieties that many neighboring estates embraced. That commitment to tradition has made Fèlsina one of Tuscany's most respected names.
The Riserva Berardenga comes from Sangiovese grown on Castelnuovo Berardenga's limestone-rich, high-altitude vineyards with southwestern exposure, a site that gives the grape both elegance and intensity. Only carefully selected clusters go into this bottling, which then undergoes extended aging to build the structure and depth the Riserva designation calls for.
The wine shows a vivid ruby color with aromas of red cherry, violet, and earthy spice. Fine, well-integrated tannins frame concentrated red fruit and savory notes, carrying through to a long, balanced finish. It's a natural fit for roasted duck, grilled veal chops, or a hard aged cheese.
