Querciabella was founded in 1974 in the heart of Chianti Classico and has long been regarded as one of the region's most forward-thinking producers, guided today by owner Sebastiano Castiglioni. The estate converted to organic farming in 1988 and adopted biodynamic methods in 2000, decades ahead of most Tuscan neighbors. Alongside this Chianti Classico, Querciabella is also known for ambitious bottlings like Camartina and Batàr, farming seventy-four hectares of vineyard within the appellation.

Fruit for this wine comes from three of Chianti's finest subzones: Greve, Radda, and Gaiole, planted between 350 and 700 meters on sandstone and galestro soils. Yields are kept low, and the grapes are vinified with minimal intervention to preserve site character. The wine matures for fourteen months in a mix of small and large oak vessels, none of it new, followed by an additional year of bottle aging before release.

The 2021 pours a deep purple hue and offers aromas of black cherry, black raspberry, violet, and lavender, with a savory edge of fresh leather. On the palate it is silky and vibrant, carrying bright acidity and fine, chalky tannins through a long, layered finish. Serve it with pasta tossed in a wild boar ragu or grilled Tuscan sausage.

93 Points
"This red is precise, offering cherry, raspberry, rose, iron and tobacco flavors fused to a steely, dense and vibrant structure. Balanced and intense, building to a long aftertaste infused with fruit and mineral notes. Best from 2026 through 2045. 15,000 cases made, 2,400 cases imported."
