2022 Antinori - Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG Marchese (750ml)
The Antinori family has called Florence home since the early thirteenth century, when they arrived from the nearby town of Calenzano. Originally merchants registered with the Guild of Silk Weavers in 1285, the family's fortunes shifted toward wine when Giovanni di Piero Antinori joined the Guild of Winemakers in 1385, beginning a run that continues today. Marchese Antinori is one of the house's most historic labels, and since 2011 it has been produced exclusively from grapes grown on the Tignanello estate, made only in years the family judges strong enough for the designation.
The wine is roughly 90 percent Sangiovese and 10 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, all destemmed fruit grown on the Tignanello property between the Greve and Pesa river valleys, where about 130 hectares are planted to vine. After fermentation, the wine ages close to a year in French and Hungarian oak barriques, followed by a further twelve months in bottle before release.
The 2022 pours a deep ruby red, with black cherry, violet, and rose petal aromas layered over vanilla and cocoa. The palate is full and lively, with supple, vibrant tannins and a long, savory finish. Try it with veal saltimbocca, herb-roasted chicken, or aged Grana Padano.
