2022 Arnaldo Rossi - Toscana IGT Sella Dell'Acuto (750ml)
Producer
Arnaldo Rossi's path into wine began not in a vineyard but behind the bar of his own tavern in Cortona, where years of pouring wine for guests eventually turned into a desire to make it himself. What started as a personal passion grew into a small estate built vineyard by vineyard, each planted with an eye toward the particular character of its site. Rossi's wines are made using traditional, largely hands off methods, with an emphasis on letting the land and the vintage speak for themselves rather than imposing a uniform house style.
Growing and Production
Sella dell'Acuto comes from a small half hectare plot planted in 2009 on a stony, galestro rich ridge at 360 meters, named for the condottiere Giovanni l'Acuto, who once held the nearby Castle of Montecchio. The vines are trained low and dense, with all vineyard work done entirely by hand to keep yields naturally restrained. After harvest the Sangiovese ferments and ages in cement and large wooden casks before bottling, an approach chosen to preserve freshness and the stony character of the site rather than adding oak driven weight.
Tasting Notes
The wine shows plump, juicy fruit and smoothly polished tannins, with a savory, saline edge that makes for an easy, satisfying glass. It carries real gastronomic range, pairing naturally with cured meats, aged cheeses, or simple grilled dishes.
