Barone Ricasoli is widely regarded as the oldest winery in Italy, with the family rooted at Brolio Castle in Gaiole in Chianti since 1141. Baron Francesco Ricasoli, the 32nd generation to oversee the estate, has led the property since 1993, guiding roughly 235 hectares of vineyard and 26 hectares of olive groves across the family's 1,200-hectare holding. Rocca Guicciarda was once one of the Ricasoli family's own feudal estates, and the name now belongs to this Chianti Classico Riserva, drawn from vineyards across the property.

The blend leans heavily on Sangiovese, making up 90 percent of the wine, with small additions of Merlot and Canaiolo rounding out the remaining ten percent. Sangiovese supplies the wine's acidity and red cherry character, Merlot lends roundness, and Canaiolo contributes soft floral nuances. Following fermentation in steel, the wine ages for about 21 months in tonneaux and large oak casks, then rests a further few months in bottle before release, a process that builds depth while keeping the fruit intact.

The glass shows an intense ruby red color, with a bouquet of ripe red fruit, spice, and a touch of vanilla from the oak. On the palate it is full-bodied and well balanced, with integrated tannins and vibrant acidity leading to a long, harmonious finish. It pairs naturally with grilled veal chops, cured salami, or a semi-aged sheep's milk cheese.
