Rocca delle Macìe, based in Castellina in Chianti, is best known for its Chianti Classico wines, but the Zingarelli family expanded into Tuscany's wild Maremma region in 1998 with the purchase of the Campomaccione estate near Grosseto. The following year they began planting Sangiovese alongside international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah on the property's sandy, sandstone-rich soils. Campo Maccione was the first red wine the family produced from this Maremma holding.

The wine is built from Sangiovese, known locally as Morellino, with a small addition of Cabernet Sauvignon rounding out the blend. Grapes are grown at roughly 130 meters above sea level on north and northwest facing slopes, hand selected at harvest, and fermented at controlled temperatures in stainless steel. Rather than extended barrel aging, the wine spends a few months resting in steel and cement tanks, a choice that preserves its bright fruit character and easy drinkability.

In the glass it shows a brilliant ruby red color, with a fresh, aromatic bouquet of wild berries, cherry, and light floral and spice notes. The palate is generous and well balanced, carried by vibrant acidity and a smooth, silky texture. This is a versatile, food friendly red that pairs naturally with pasta in tomato-based sauces, pizza, and roasted red meats.
