Petra was founded in the mid-1990s by the Moretti family, already well known in Franciacorta for their Bellavista sparkling wines, who set their sights on the emerging Suvereto zone within the Tuscan Maremma. The estate's striking winery was designed by the Swiss architect Mario Botta, conceived almost as a modern temple dedicated to wine itself. Hebo takes its name from an ancient Etruscan settlement once found in this area, honoring the deep historical roots of Suvereto even as the estate embraces a thoroughly contemporary approach to winemaking.

Growing and Production

Hebo is a classic Super Tuscan blend of roughly 50 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 40 percent Merlot, and 10 percent Sangiovese, hand harvested only once fully ripe. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel at carefully controlled temperatures, chosen to preserve the fruit's natural character. The wine then ages for about a year in a combination of Slavonian oak casks and a smaller portion of French barrique, followed by further time resting in bottle before release.

Tasting Notes

The 2022 vintage shows a bright ruby red color, with aromas of black cherry, blueberry, violet, and peony giving way to mineral notes and a whisper of Mediterranean scrub. The palate is fresh and well balanced, with harmonious tannin and acidity leading into a savory finish marked by blackberry and dried fruit. It pairs nicely with grilled red meats, roasted lamb, or a plate of aged cheeses.
