2022 Querciabella Mongrana — 750ml

From Querciabella, one of Tuscany’s most forward-thinking and environmentally committed estates, the 2022 Mongrana is a sun-drenched Maremman red that embodies southern Tuscany’s coastal terroir. This biodynamic, vegan wine is crafted from a classic Sangiovese–Merlot–Cabernet Sauvignon blend grown in mineral-rich soils of the Maremma IGT zone. It offers immediate charm while revealing genuine depth, approachable in youth yet structured enough to reward a few years of patience.

  • Grape blend: Sangiovese, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Terroir: Mineral-rich soils of the Maremma IGT zone, coastal Tuscany
  • Biodynamics and vegan: Produced under Querciabella’s rigorous biodynamic farming; vegan certification ensures no animal products at any stage
  • Aroma: Deep ruby color with notes of ripe black cherry, plum, dried herbs, tobacco, and a whisper of Mediterranean scrubland
  • Palate: Medium-full body with soft, polished tannins, lively acidity, and flavors of dark fruit, violets, leather, and a hint of mocha on the lingering finish

This wine blends elegance with coastal character, pairing the brightness of Sangiovese with the plushness of Merlot and the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon. Mongrana is approachable now but rewards a little patience, developing subtle complexities with time in the bottle.

Food pairings: Ideal with hearty Tuscan fare—grilled or roasted red meats (such as bistecca alla Fiorentina or lamb), pasta with ragù or mushroom sauces, and aged cheeses like pecorino. Its bright acidity and savory notes also balance rich tomato-based dishes and rustic vegetable roasts.

91 Points
"The 2022 Mongrana is a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon coming from Maremma, south of Grosetto. It pours a saturated magenta color and is pure and floral with ripe aromas of black raspberry liqueur, fresh flowers, wet stone, and sweet herbs. It is full-bodied and approachable, with a plush, velvety texture and delicate warmth on the finish. It is a gorgeous wine with a lot of versatility at a stellar price point to drink over the next 6-8 years. 120,000 bottles produced."
