2022 Tenuta San Guido(Nicolo Incisa Rocchetta) - Toscana Rosso IGT Guidalberto Super Tuscan
Tenuta San Guido sits on the Tuscan coast in Bolgheri, an estate founded by Marquis Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, whose early experiments with Cabernet Sauvignon in the 1940s helped establish the region as a serious wine-growing area. His son, Nicolò Incisa della Rocchetta, later partnered with Piero Antinori and consultant Giacomo Tachis to refine the family's flagship Sassicaia, introducing temperature-controlled fermentation and French oak aging that transformed it into one of Italy's most celebrated reds. Guidalberto was introduced in 2000 as a separate wine built for earlier drinking, named for a 19th-century ancestor who helped shape the Bolgheri landscape.
The 2022 vintage blends 60 percent Cabernet Sauvignon with 40 percent Merlot, sourced from vineyards planted across the estate's coastal parcels. Each variety ferments separately in temperature-controlled steel tanks before the wine is aged for around 15 months in a mix of French and American oak barrels. The warm growing season lent the fruit a plush, ripe character while the estate's careful yield management preserved freshness and structure.
Aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, and fresh mint mingle with sage, orange peel, and a touch of oak spice on the nose. The palate is soft and refined, with creamy tannins and good acidity carrying the wine to a long, savory finish. This is a versatile red suited to grilled pork, roasted duck, or a hearty meat sauce pasta.
