2022 Torre A Cona - Chianti Colli Fiorentini Crociferro (750ml)
Torre a Cona is a historic Tuscan estate whose roots trace back to 1066, with a seventeenth-century villa that has survived wars and once sheltered priceless works of art during the Second World War. Located roughly seven miles southeast of Florence in the Colli Fiorentini subzone, the property is planted with a single fourteen-hectare vineyard dedicated to Sangiovese, producing around 6,300 cases each year across its range of Chianti and Chianti Riserva bottlings.
Crociferro is made from ninety percent Sangiovese and ten percent Colorino del Valdarno, fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel. The blend then splits for aging, with most of the wine resting in steel to preserve its fruit and a smaller portion moving into large Slavonian oak casks for added texture. The result is a fresh, precisely made expression of the estate's Colli Fiorentini fruit.
The 2022 shows a brilliant ruby red color with a fine, fresh nose of red fruit, plum, and a touch of lavender. On the palate it is juicy and lively, with bright acidity balanced by silky tannins and a harmonious, medium-length finish. Enjoy it with wood-fired pizza, roasted chicken, or simple tomato-based pastas.
