2023 Campo di Sasso - Toscana Rosso IGT Insoglio (750ml)
Marchese Lodovico Antinori discovered the land that would become Tenuta di Biserno in 1994, while scouting additional acreage near his Bolgheri estate, Ornellaia. Struck by the terroir's potential despite its stonier, hillier character, he and his brother Piero founded Biserno as a distinct project in 2001. Campo di Sasso, a nearby 46 hectare property near Bibbona with sandier, warmer growing conditions, became the source for this wine, the label widely considered the founding release of the entire Biserno group.
Insoglio del Cinghiale blends Syrah with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, all international varieties that have adapted well to this stretch of the Alta Maremma coast. The grapes are carefully selected on a vibrating sorting table, destemmed, and gently pressed before fermenting in temperature controlled steel tanks for two to three weeks. The wine is designed for early drinkability and approachability, spending a comparatively brief period aging before release.
The 2023 shows a deep ruby red with violet highlights and a fleshy, expressive nose of peppery spice, cherry, blueberry, and aromatic herbs, with a faint balsamic edge. The palate opens fresh and elegant, framed by tannins that are delicate and already well resolved, giving the wine real charm without heaviness. Pair it with grilled sausage, roasted pork, or a hearty lentil soup.
