2023 Collosorbo - Rosso di Montalcino DOC (750ml)
Tenuta di Collosorbo was established in 1995 when Giovanna Ciacci split off a portion of her family's historic Tenuta di Sesta, an estate founded in 1850 that had bottled its first Brunello back in 1966. Today Giovanna runs Collosorbo alongside her daughters, Laura and Lucia Sutera Sardo, with Laura overseeing winemaking and Lucia handling sales. The estate sits in the southern reaches of Montalcino, between Sant'Angelo in Colle and Castelnuovo dell'Abate, on thirty-five hectares sheltered by the surrounding hills and Mount Amiata, farmed organically.
The Rosso is made entirely from Sangiovese, sourced partly from vineyards also used for the family's Brunello and partly from younger plantings. Grapes are picked by hand, fermented at controlled temperatures, and given a medium maceration before aging around a year in large Slavonian and French oak barrels, with a small portion in barriques, followed by several more months in bottle.
The wine shows a bright ruby color and an open bouquet of red fruit and floral notes. On the palate it has good structure and persistence, with well-integrated tannins that give it a lively, harmonious character. Try it with grilled pork, tomato-based pasta, or fresh pecorino.
