2021 Chateau du Coing de St. Fiacre - Muscadet de Sevre et Maine Sur Lie (750ml)
The Château du Coing de St. Fiacre estate dates back to the fifteenth century, though vines were cultivated on the property since Roman times. The Chéreau-Carré family purchased the château in 1973, and Véronique Günther-Chéreau, the eldest daughter, took over winemaking in 1990. Passionate about her region, she crafts wines that reflect an authentic sense of terroir, with certain cuvées capable of aging gracefully for a decade or more.
The forty five hectare estate sits at the confluence of the Sèvre and Maine rivers, on the foothills of the Massif Armoricain, an area widely regarded as the finest district for growing Melon de Bourgogne. The south facing vineyard is planted on schist soils with slopes reaching fourteen percent, and the vines average around sixty five years of age, lending the wine notable depth. As with all sur lie Muscadet, the wine remains on its lees through the winter following harvest, then is bottled directly off the lees without racking, a technique unique to the appellation that builds richness and a subtle textural quality.
Pale gold in the glass, this Muscadet opens with scents of white peach, green apple, and delicate floral notes. The palate shows bright citrus fruit balanced by real body and structure drawn from its extended lees aging, finishing with a saline, mineral edge. Its crisp acidity and briny character make it a natural match for oysters, mussels, or other simple seafood preparations.
