2022 Quinta Do Crasto - Douro Tinto (750ml)
Quinta do Crasto ranks among the oldest wine estates in the Douro, with documented history reaching back to 1615, well before the region became the world's first demarcated wine appellation in 1756. The property takes its name from the Latin castrum, meaning Roman fortress, a nod to the ancient ruins found on site. Since 1981 the estate has been run by the Roquette family, who have expanded and modernized the vineyards while keeping a firm focus on quality Douro reds alongside the estate's traditional Port production.
This Tinto is a blend of Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Barroca, sourced from vines over twenty years old growing on schist soil across steep, terraced, southeast-facing plots. Grapes are hand harvested into small crates, sorted carefully on arrival at the winery, then destemmed and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The wine spends most of its aging in steel, with a small portion resting in French oak barrels to add subtle complexity.
Ruby red in the glass, this wine offers aromas of ripe plum, blackberry, raspberry, and wild herbs. On the palate it is medium-bodied, juicy, and fresh, with fine, well-integrated tannins and a lively finish. It suits grilled meats, roasted lamb, or aged cheeses.
