More than a century ago, Mr. Sella and Mr. Mosca fell in love with the rugged beauty of northwestern Sardinia and founded what has since become one of Italy's most storied wine estates. Today Sella e Mosca stands as the island's leading producer, farming exclusively estate-grown fruit across its 1,600-acre property at I Piani, one of the largest contiguous vineyards in all of Europe. Alongside native varieties like Vermentino and Torbato, the estate has built its reputation on Cannonau, Sardinia's answer to Grenache.

Grown in the estate's hot, dry vineyards that stretch from sandy coastal plots to rockier inland hillsides, the Cannonau grapes benefit from wide diurnal swings that help concentrate both sugar and acidity. Harvested in late autumn, the grapes ferment on their skins in temperature-controlled stainless steel before the wine moves into large Slavonian oak barrels for roughly two years, followed by additional months resting in bottle prior to release.

The result is a wine with mature, layered aromas of violet, dark plum, blackcurrant, and warm Oriental spice. On the palate it is solid and well-structured, its warmth balanced by fresh herbal and balsamic notes, closing with a touch of toast before returning to its spicy core. It pairs beautifully with grilled lamb, beef kebabs, or a hearty osso buco.
