2023 Fautor - Sauvignon Blanc Aligote Valul lui Trajan 310 Altitudine (750ml)
Fautor is a family-run Moldovan winery founded at the close of the twentieth century, with vineyards spanning roughly 350 hectares in the Tigheci Hills, part of the Valul lui Traian growing area in southern Moldova. The 310 Altitudine line takes its name from the vineyard's elevation, among the highest points in that part of the country, and the range was created as the estate began moving beyond single varietal wines toward more unusual blends. Fautor has picked up numerous international awards over the years and is recognized as one of Moldova's most decorated producers.
This bottling blends Sauvignon Blanc and Aligoté, two grapes of French origin, in a ratio of roughly 55 to 45 percent. Both varieties are grown on the elevated Tigheci vineyards, where the altitude helps preserve freshness and acidity through the region's warm growing season. The wine is vinified dry and reaches about 13 to 13.5 percent alcohol, with no oak influence, letting the fruit and site speak for themselves.
The wine shows a pale straw color and opens with delicate floral notes before moving into pear and fresh lemon. On the palate, white-fleshed fruit flavors are framed by bright, well-balanced acidity and a clean, lingering finish. Serve it chilled with roast or grilled poultry, fresh salads, or a plate of mild cheeses.
