2023 Lelievre - Cotes de Toul Auxerrois (750ml)
The Lelièvre family has farmed vineyards in Lucey, in the Côtes de Toul appellation of Lorraine, since before the French Revolution, though the domaine only began estate bottling in 1971 under Jean Lelièvre. Today the property is run by brothers Vincent and David Lelièvre, who farm more than seventeen hectares organically across the villages of Lucey, Bruley, and Blénod-lès-Toul, continuing a family tradition tied closely to this small, often overlooked corner of northeastern France.
Auxerrois, also known as Pinot Auxerrois, was developed in Lorraine as an aromatic selection of Pinot Blanc suited to the region's clay and limestone soils and cool northern climate. Here in Lucey it is typically the first grape to reach maturity each year. The 2023 vintage is aged entirely in stainless steel, a choice that keeps the wine fresh and lets the fruit character come through without any oak influence.
The wine shows a pale yellow color with pearly reflections and an expressive nose of William pear, peach, and mirabelle plum. The palate is round and harmonious, carrying citrus flavors and crisp, refreshing acidity through a clean finish. It pairs well with oysters, shellfish, or goat cheese, and also suits a simple white pizza.
