2023 Pouy - Cotes de Gascogne (750ml)
Domaine de Pouy belongs to the Grassa family, the same family behind the well-known Domaine du Tariquet, and the estate sits in the Côtes de Gascogne in southwest France, a region historically prized for Armagnac production that has become equally respected for its fresh, aromatic white wines over the past several decades.
The 2023 vintage is a blend of Gros Manseng, Ugni Blanc, Colombard, and Sauvignon Blanc, varieties traditionally used for distillation that the Grassa family instead vinifies into a clean, dry white. After harvest the juice rests on its skins under cold conditions for several hours before pressing, a method meant to draw out aromatic intensity while keeping the fruit character bright. The wine is made without oak and finished at a light ten and a half percent alcohol.
On the palate this is a crisp, medium-bodied white with notes of green apple, white peach, and citrus zest, along with a touch of tropical fruit and fresh herbs on the finish. Bright acidity keeps it lively and food-friendly, pairing nicely with shellfish, roast chicken, goat cheese, or simple salads.
