2024 Frenzy - Sauvignon Blanc New Zealand (750ml)
Frenzy is made by Paua Bay Wines in Blenheim, the wine capital of New Zealand, under the direction of winemaker Rebecca "Bec" Wiffen, who has deep family roots in the Marlborough region. Rather than sourcing from a single estate, Bec builds Frenzy as a careful blend of selected vineyard parcels, hand-picking blocks at harvest and fermenting them in small batches to bring together layers of complexity and depth in an approachable, easy-drinking style.
This bottling blends fruit from both islands, roughly thirty percent from Marlborough and seventy percent from Gisborne. The Marlborough component comes from vineyards on the northeastern tip of the South Island, where persistent ocean breezes and soils rich in volcanic greywacke and alluvial silt contribute energetic aromatics and mineral character. The Gisborne portion, grown in a warmer North Island region sheltered by coastal hills, adds ripeness and riper tropical notes, since the area's clay and silt loam soils retain moisture well through the growing season.
The wine shows a pale straw color with green highlights and inviting aromas of guava, persimmon, and lime zest, backed by fresh-cut grass and thyme. On the palate it is rich and tropical, layering passionfruit and grapefruit over long, lingering acidity. It works nicely as an aperitif or alongside seafood.
