NV Armenia Wine Factory - Pomegranate Semisweet (750ml)
Armenia Wine was founded by the Vardanyan and Mkrtchyan families, who began planting vineyards in the southwestern Armavir region in 2006 before officially establishing the winery in 2008. The estate is based in Aragatsotn, between Yerevan and Mount Aragats, and the company describes its mission as reviving Armenia's ancient winemaking traditions, a heritage that predates the vineyards of France and Italy by thousands of years. Alongside grape wines, Armenia Wine has built a reputation for fruit wines that draw on the country's deep cultural connection to the pomegranate.
This semisweet wine blends pomegranate juice in equal measure with juice from the Areni and Haghtanak grape varieties. The pomegranates come from Meghri, a warm southern district known for producing especially sweet, richly colored fruit, while the grapes are grown in Aragatsotn. After blending, the juice undergoes alcoholic fermentation for about two weeks in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, a method chosen to preserve the fresh character of the fruit. The finished wine reaches roughly 12 percent alcohol.
In the glass this wine shows a bright pomegranate-red color with a purple sparkle. The aroma is gentle and fruity, and the palate delivers ripe pomegranate kernel flavor balanced by refreshing acidity and soft, lingering tannins. Serve it chilled alongside grilled or roasted chicken, soft cheeses such as brie or camembert, or fruit-based desserts.
