From Dry Creek Valley, the 2022 Dry Creek Vineyards Zinfandel Heritage Vines captures the region’s oldest genetic material in a bottle. This vintage blends 81% Zinfandel with 18% Petite Sirah and a small dash of Carignane, all sustainably farmed across the estate’s roughly 185 acres.

The Heritage Vines program preserves the valley’s historic vines by taking cuttings from a pre-Prohibition vineyard, grafting onto phylloxera-resistant rootstock, and screening for virus-free vines before a crop emerges. The 2022 release leans into that old-vine character, delivering depth and complexity that set it apart from younger plantings.

Tasting notes

  • Aromas of black cherry, plum, and ripe blueberry, layered with pepper, baking spice, and cocoa powder.
  • On the palate, cranberry and blackberry pie flavors mingle with espresso, fine leather, and cedar, leading to a lively, well-structured finish.

Food pairings

  • Spice-rubbed brisket
  • Hard salami
  • A slice of dark chocolate cake
Appellation: Sonoma County
