Nick Goldschmidt is a New Zealand-born winemaker who spent years as head winemaker at Simi before launching his own family label in Sonoma’s Alexander Valley. Forefathers honors the generations who came before him. It’s 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Lone Tree vineyard, a three-acre, east-facing mountain parcel just north of Geyserville. Its stony, schist-laced soils give the fruit deep black cherry and plum character. The grapes spend about 50 days on their skins, which builds fine, round tannins, before aging in French oak. Expect blackcurrant, blackberry, blueberry and dark chocolate, with spice and toasty oak. The palate is medium to full, with chalky tannins and real freshness and poise. A great match for ribeye, braised short ribs or lamb.

93 Points
"A big, opulent wine with loads of spices, robust fruit and abundant but smooth tannins. The nose shows cloves, nutmeg, blackberries, ripe plums and earth. Plush, mouth-filling fruit that feels ripe but fresh, with flavors of baking spices and cedar. Tannins are chewy and persistent but not overly drying. Full-bodied. Drink or hold."
