2023 Brown Estate Chaos Theory Proprietary Red (750ml)

Brown Estate, founded in 1996 in Napa Valley’s Chiles Valley as the region’s first Black-owned estate winery, has long stood for bold ambition and distinctive character. Chaos Theory began as a one-off blend for the Premiere Napa Valley trade auction under winemaker David Brown, and it has since become a signature part of Brown Estate’s lineup. The 2023 vintage brings together 26% Cabernet Franc, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Zinfandel, 22% Merlot, and 6% Barbera from estate and grower vineyards across Sonoma County. Each variety ferments separately before blending, then spends six months in French oak, about half of which is new, to round tannins while keeping the fruit center stage.

Tasting Notes

The wine presents a deep garnet core in the glass, with a perfumed nose of Rainier cherry, blackberry compote, winter spice, and rose petal. It opens to notes of brandied cherry and a touch of cream. On the palate, it is silky and medium- to full-bodied, carrying dark fruit, cocoa, and baking spice toward a smooth, concentrated finish.
