Established in the 14th century and stewarded by the Cathiard family since 1990, Smith Haut Lafitte is a Grand Cru Classé estate farmed under a certified organic, "Bio-Precision" philosophy. The 2016 is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot, aged 18 months in 60% new oak. Expect a deep garnet-purple color with a succinct, refined bouquet of pure blackberry, bilberry, pressed flowers, and undergrowth, moving into a medium-bodied palate with svelte tannins, exquisite balance, and an edgy, precise, mineral-driven finish. A more elegant, reserved expression from this estate, yet still full-bodied and richly layered, built to age gracefully for decades.

"This is an extremely precise Smith-Haut-Lafitte, certainly a cerebral 2016 that might well be approachable young, yet will certainly age in consummate style. The ch?teau's own tasting note reads What more could one possibly want from a wine?" The answer to that is: "Another bottle."""
