2018 Domaine Duroche - Gevrey Chambertin Clos (750ml)
The Vineyard
Le Clos derives from a parcel planted in 1998 in the lieu-dit Le Village, situated at the foot of the Combe Lavaux on alluvial soils, less than 0.4 hectares in size. It sits right behind the church in the village center — a distinctive, intimate terroir.
Tasting Notes
The 2018 Le Clos was the first parcel Duroché picked that harvest. It delivers plenty of raspberry, wild strawberry and damp earthy aromas on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grained tannin, a lovely bead of acidity, more flesh than the Champ cuvée, and a little more depth on the finish. Very approachable in style.
A separate note describes a pretty bouquet of sweet berry fruit, cherries and candied peel — pure and expressive — with the palate being medium to full-bodied, supple and layered, with powdery structuring tannins and good length.
One taster called it a slight step up from Champ on the nose, with attractive blueberry fruits and fragrant rose petals — refreshing with good ripeness — noting it is not far from Premier Cru weight in this vintage.
