2020 Trerose - Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Colli di Santa Caterina (750ml)

Tenuta Trerose is centered on Villa Romizi, a sixteenth century estate on the slopes of Valiano di Montepulciano whose grounds trace back even further, with Roman-era ruins still visible on the property. The estate takes its layout from the shape of the land itself, with vineyards spread across five distinct hills, each offering its own mix of exposure and soil. Trerose has built its reputation on Sangiovese, known locally as Prugnolo Gentile, farmed with close attention to the particular character each hillside brings to the wine.

Colli di Santa Caterina is sourced from the Santa Caterina hill, where sandstone and salt-rich clay soils sit within a production zone shaped by nearby marine fossils and silt deposits at elevations between roughly 820 and 1,900 feet. The vines here average around twenty years old and are trained on a spur-cordon system, and the wine spends about twelve months in large oak barrels before further time resting in bottle prior to release.

The wine shows an intense ruby red color with purplish highlights, opening to an expressive nose of brandied cherry, red currant, blackberry, and myrtle, with a touch of bitter orange. The palate is plush and sweetly fruited, with a soft texture balanced by lively acidity and a long, captivating finish. It pairs nicely with grilled sausage, roasted pork, or a hearty tomato-based pasta.
