2020 Zingarelli - Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG Riserva di Fizzano (750ml)
Rocca delle Macìe began in 1973, when film producer and director Italo Zingarelli set his cinema career aside to build a winery in the heart of Chianti Classico, starting with the purchase of the Le Macìe property. The estate has since expanded to six separate properties across roughly 600 hectares, with the Zingarelli family, now led by Italo's son Sergio and his wife Daniela, continuing to oversee the winemaking. Fizzano is one of these estates, prized for the depth and structure its fruit brings to the family's top wines.
Riserva di Fizzano is a single-vineyard Gran Selezione built mainly on Sangiovese, with a small portion of complementary red grapes grown on the Fizzano property itself. After fermentation at controlled temperature, the wine ages partly in large French oak casks for roughly two years, with additional time in smaller barriques, before resting close to a year longer in bottle prior to release, a long process aimed at building complexity and polish.
The 2020 shows an intense ruby red hue, with a refined bouquet of red fruit, spice, coffee, and cocoa. The palate is elegant and full-bodied, with a sweet tannic texture, good freshness, and a long, savory finish. It pairs well with hearty roasted meats, braised wild boar, or a plate of aged cheese.
