2022 Honig - Cabernet Sauvignon Napa
2022 Honig Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley (750ml)
Honig Vineyard & Winery traces back to 1964, when Louis Honig purchased a 68-acre Rutherford ranch to grow Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon for neighboring wineries. Today, an all-female winemaking team leads Honig, focusing exclusively on two varieties—Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon—while the family’s sustainably farmed estate continues to expand. The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon is built primarily from estate fruit from the Rutherford vineyard, augmented by select Napa Valley sources, and crafted to reflect the region’s expressive character and Honig’s commitment to sustainable farming.
Each vineyard block is picked and fermented separately, then blended with small amounts of Malbec, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petite Sirah. The finished blend ages about eighteen months in a mix of French and American oak, contributing subtle toasty notes while preserving the wine’s fruit-forward balance.
Wine profile
- Aroma: blackberry, red plum, and raspberry unfold into cranberry, black tea, and a hint of coriander seed.
- Palate: full-bodied and silky with ripe, well-managed tannins that support a long, refined finish.
- Oak influence: a whisper of toasted oak that threads through the lingering aftertaste.
- Asset mix: estate Rutherford fruit forms the core, complemented by additional Napa Valley sources for depth and complexity.
- Vinification: blocks fermented separately; 18 months of aging in French and American oak.
This 2022 vintage presents a confident, fruit-forward Napa Cabernet Sauvignon with a refined structure that rewards thoughtful food pairing and careful decanting to reveal its evolving complexity.
