Poderi Boscarelli was founded in the 1960s by the De Ferrari Corradi family in Cervognano, at the heart of the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano production zone. Across generations the family has focused on drawing out the purest character of Sangiovese, known locally as Prugnolo Gentile, with a stated aim of elevating this historic Tuscan appellation on the world stage. Prugnolo has been produced since 1989, originally released simply as Rosso di Montepulciano before adopting its current name in 2003.

The wine is a blend of roughly 90 percent Prugnolo Gentile and 10 percent Mammolo, sourced from younger vines in Cervognano that tend to yield grapes with brighter aromatics and lighter structure than those used for the estate's Vino Nobile. The alluvial soils here are calcareous and sandy, with a good share of silt and clay, lending the wine a mineral freshness. After destemming and gentle pressing, the grapes ferment in steel with native yeasts, a process built to preserve the variety's fruit-forward character rather than add weight or heaviness.

The result is a brilliant ruby-red wine with aromas of iris, violet, plum, and blueberry, along with notes of wild rose and brushwood. On the palate it is fresh and fragrant, with pure Sangiovese character and a light, easy structure best enjoyed within four or five years of harvest. It pairs naturally with pasta in tomato sauce, cold cuts, or roasted chicken.
