2023 Caymus - Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley (750ml)
Caymus Vineyards was founded in 1972 by Charlie Wagner and has been run by the Wagner family for more than five decades, growing into one of Napa Valley's most recognized Cabernet producers. The winery built its reputation on a consistent house style rooted in ripe fruit, deep color, and immediate approachability, a combination that has earned it a following among both casual drinkers and serious collectors. That signature style continues under the direction of Chuck Wagner and the next generation of the family, who oversee sourcing and winemaking across the estate's holdings.
The 2023 vintage draws Cabernet Sauvignon from a wide swath of Napa Valley's sub-appellations, blending fruit from cooler sites like Coombsville with warmer vineyards in Calistoga and lush valley floor plantings. This diversified sourcing gives the winemaking team flexibility to balance structure and richness each vintage. The wine is aged in oak barrels that contribute layers of vanilla, cedar, and baking spice, and is bottled at 14.6% ABV.
On the palate, this Cabernet is full-bodied and plush, with dark fruit flavors of blackberry, cassis, and ripe cherry layered over cocoa, espresso, and sweet tobacco. Velvety tannins and a long, smooth finish make it approachable on release while retaining enough structure for aging. It pairs beautifully with grilled ribeye, braised short ribs, or aged cheddar.
