2023 Martoccia - Toscana Rosso IGT Poggio Apricale (750ml)
The everyday Tuscan red you'll reach for again and again — joyful, honest, and utterly charming. The Poggio Apricale is crafted by Mauro Brunelli and Anna Savini, owners of the esteemed Brunelli Estate, from the Martoccia Farm located just 500 meters from the center of Montalcino — one of Italy's most hallowed wine villages. The 2023 vintage earned 90 points from James Suckling, who praised its focus and vibrancy, noting plum skin, red cherries, dried blood oranges, dried flowers, and hints of wet stones on the nose, with a tense and succulent palate of fine tannins and vivid acidity. Crafted from Sangiovese, Merlot, and Colorino grown in stony soils, hand-harvested in late September, and fermented naturally in stainless steel before three months in Slavonian and French oak, it is a wine of bright ruby color, lively freshness, and effortless drinkability. The estate is committed to low-yield sustainable viticulture, producing quantities far below what appellation rules require — and the quality shows in every glass. An outstanding value from a producer better known for serious Brunello, at a fraction of the price
