2023 RAEN - Pinot Noir Sonoma Freestone Occidental Bodega Vineyard (750ml)
From RAEN’s cool-climate Pinot Noir program on the Sonoma Coast, the 2023 Pinot Noir from Freestone–Occidental Bodega Vineyard captures the tension, savoriness, and strong sense of place that define this winery. This 750 ml bottle reflects RAEN’s focus on vineyards that express a distinct coastal influence.
Vineyard & Craft
Bodega Vineyard sits just behind Bodega Bay between the coastal villages of Freestone and Occidental, close enough to the Pacific that fog and ocean breezes shape the fruit each morning. At 1.8 acres, it holds the oldest meter-by-meter planting of Pinot Noir on the Sonoma Coast, farmed entirely by hand due to its steep slope and dense vine spacing.
The 2023 growing season ran unusually long and cool, pushing harvest into early October. The grapes were fermented with 100% whole clusters and aged in neutral French oak, then bottled without fining or filtration.
Tasting Notes & Style
The wine opens with red cherry, red plum, and raspberry fruit intertwined with violet, wild herb, and wet stone notes, all carried by bright, steely acidity. The palate is concentrated yet lifted, finishing long with a mineral-driven precision that lingers.
