2024 RAEN Pinot Noir Sonoma Royal St. Robert

From RAEN’s western Sonoma Coast origins, the Royal St. Robert bottling honors the Mondavi family lineage while showcasing Pinot Noir shaped by Pacific fog, coastal wind, and marine-influenced soils. This special cuvée captures a balance of coastal intensity and refined elegance, offering a Pinot that’s both expressive and thoughtfully structured.

Tasting notes

Opening aromatics rise with rose petals, wild strawberry, savory herbs, and the faint edge of a coastal forest about to bloom. On the palate, red cherry, raspberry, and plum unfold alongside hints of blood orange marmalade and thyme. Layer upon layer reveals forest floor, mushroom-laced foliage, sea moss, and ripe cherries, building depth while maintaining a bright core of red and black berries. The finish is lifted by spice and a breath of coastal freshness, delivering a wine that is at once tactile and luminous.

Why this wine stands out

Royal St. Robert represents a benchmark for American Pinot Noir, linking family heritage with a distinctly wild, maritime character. Crafted in small lots with a hands-off approach to fining, it maintains a precise balance between aromatic lift and structured depth, inviting a sense of place that resonates with both new-world vibrancy and old-world nuance.

Food pairings and serving suggestions

  • Roasted poultry with herbs (thyme, rosemary) and mushroom undertones
  • Pan-seared salmon or tuna, especially with citrus-glazed reductions
  • Mushroom risotto or sautéed mushrooms with earthy accents
  • Medium-aged cheeses or soft-rinded cheeses with a touch of fruit

Serve slightly below cellar temperature, around 58–60°F (14–16°C), to focus the aromatic profile and keep the tannins refined. Decanting 15–30 minutes before drinking helps to reveal the wine’s layered complexity.

99 Points
"Spellbinding aromas of rose petals, strawberries, citrus and bark, with hints of lemongrass. Medium-bodied, tight and structured, this offers a captivating combination of linear intensity and calmness, so classy and sophisticated. A continued benchmark for American pinot noir. Drink or hold."
