2024 Winiveria - Khikhvi Classic (750ml)

Khikhvi is one of Georgia's rarest indigenous white grapes, with currently fewer than 1,000 hectares planted across the entire country. The variety was nearly lost after the Soviet era and survives today largely thanks to producers in Kakheti who have worked to bring it back from near extinction. Kakheti itself accounts for roughly 70 percent of Georgia's vineyard area and sits at the heart of what many consider the birthplace of wine, with archaeological evidence of winemaking there dating back 8,000 years.

Unlike Georgia's traditional amber, skin-contact bottlings, Winiveria's Classic line takes a lighter, more contemporary approach. This European-style white showcases the Khikhvi grape's aromatic side, with notes of currant leaves, green apple, citrus, and exotic fruit, carried by a bright, pleasant acidity that makes it a natural partner for seafood and fish. It's an elegant white with a distinctive, unique aroma, rich in exotic fruit flavors and a delicate, refined taste.

This is an excellent introduction to Khikhvi for drinkers who want the grape's characteristic perfume and richness without the tannic structure and deeper color of a traditional qvevri-aged version.

Serve well chilled alongside grilled fish, shellfish, or a simple herbed cheese plate.
