Prager’s crown jewel. Kammergut is a tiny 0.34-hectare parcel within Zwerithaler, a near monopole for Prager just east of Weissenkirchen. The land is still owned by Melk Abbey, and its ungrafted vines were planted in 1907, before WWI, making them the oldest on the estate. They grow mostly Grüner with a scattering of historic varieties like Gouais Blanc, across nine southeast-facing terraces of paragneiss threaded with dark and calcareous rock. Prager first bottled it on its own in 2015, and the 2019 earned a perfect 100 points from Falstaff.

The 2025 is tightly wound yet light on its feet, with linden blossom and orchard fruit, then honeydew melon, subtle stoniness and a wisp of smoke on the palate. Concentrated, pure and saline, it’s already gorgeous but has decades ahead. A true Wachau rarity.

99 Points
"The 2025 Grüner Veltliner Ried Zwerithaler Kammergut Smaragd
comes from ancient vines that were 118 years old that year. Although
Grüner appears on the label, tiny portions of other varieties, such as
Gouais Blanc, are present on southeast-facing terraces. The shy nose
offers tender stone fruit, a touch of woodruff and little else for now.
The palate, however, is a well of savor, with profound umami saltiness
aligned with mouthwatering zestiness. This combination is totally
appetizing and irresistible. It is like an essence of stone. If this were
food, it would be called hyperpalatability. Whoa.
