Benriach The Twelve 12 yr Single Malt Whisky 750ml

BenRiach traces its origins to 1898, when John Duff, who also founded the Glenlossie and Longmorn distilleries, established the site in Speyside. The distillery closed after just two years amid a wider industry downturn and spent the following decades supplying malted barley to its neighbor Longmorn before distillation resumed in 1965. An independent consortium relaunched BenRiach as a single-malt focused brand in 2004, embracing the experimental cask philosophy that still defines it, and Brown-Forman acquired the distillery in 2016. Master Blender Rachel Barrie now leads production, building on that legacy of unconventional maturation.

The Twelve is matured across three cask types: ex-bourbon barrels, sherry casks, and Port casks, with the whisky from each vatted together after at least twelve years. BenRiach's broad, pear-shaped stills and slow spirit runs produce a textured new-make spirit, while a dual fermentation regime, combining short and extended cycles, builds both bright cereal notes and deeper estery complexity before maturation even begins. The whisky is bottled unpeated at 46% ABV.

The nose offers dried fruit, maple syrup, and dark chocolate alongside quince and orange peel. On the palate, honeyed cereal and cooked apple meet raisins and dark honey, with the finish turning toward spiced mocha, cinnamon, and lingering dried fruit.
