Disaronno Amaretto Liqueur 750ml
Disaronno Amaretto is produced by ILLVA Saronno in the town of Saronno, in Italy's Lombardy region, and traces its origins to a legend from 1525, when a local innkeeper is said to have gifted a homemade almond-scented liqueur to the painter Bernardino Luini. The recipe was rediscovered and commercialized in 1900 by the Reina family, and the brand has remained in continuous production ever since, eventually adopting the name Disaronno Originale in 2001 to distinguish itself from generic amaretto competitors.
Despite its almond-forward reputation, Disaronno contains no actual almonds or nuts. Its signature flavor comes from apricot kernel oil, combined with caramelized sugar and a blend of seventeen selected herbs and fruit essences, following a formula the company says has stayed unchanged for centuries. Production involves careful extraction and soaking of the botanicals before the liqueur is finished through vacuum distillation to concentrate its aromatics. The finished product is bottled at 28% ABV and presented in its distinctive angular glass bottle, originally designed by a Murano glass craftsman.
The liqueur opens with sweet marzipan, vanilla, and warm baking spice on the nose. On the palate it turns rich and velvety, layering toasted almond character with caramel, dried fruit, and a faint cherry note beneath the sweetness. The finish is long, warm, and nutty, with a lingering bittersweet edge that keeps it from tasting flat or one-dimensional.
