Macallan 18 yr Double Cask 2025 Single Malt Whiskey 750ml
The Macallan has operated on the Easter Elchies estate in Speyside since 1824 and is widely regarded as one of Scotland's most prestigious single malt producers. The distillery is known for its unusually hands-on approach to cask sourcing, working directly with cooperages and bodegas in Spain to have its own oak selected, air-dried, and seasoned with sherry, a process the distillery's Master of Wood oversees from tree to finished cask.
This 18 Year Old expression matures for the full eighteen years in a combination of American and European oak, both seasoned exclusively with Oloroso sherry rather than bourbon. The American oak, sourced from Ohio, Missouri, and Kentucky, contributes soft vanilla and butterscotch notes, while the European oak, drawn from Spain and the French Pyrenees, brings darker dried fruit, tannin, and characteristic spice. The two cask types are matured separately before being married together and bottled at 43% ABV.
The nose offers dried fruit, ginger, and toffee, with rich orange, clove, and nutmeg developing alongside. On the palate, raisin and sultana meet caramel and vanilla, balanced by warm oak spice and a touch of citrus. The finish is long and warming, closing on sweet orange and a lingering hint of ginger.
